Tanzania Reveals 5 Key Reforms to Enhance Disaster Response

(MENAFN) The Tanzanian government has announced a sweeping five-part strategy to strengthen the nation’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities, marking a significant step toward protecting citizens from both natural and man-made crises.

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa introduced the measures Tuesday during World Humanitarian Day events in the capital Dodoma, presenting them as part of a broader national effort to fortify emergency management systems.

The new plan includes funding to rebuild damaged infrastructure and homes, the expansion of emergency relief distribution, the creation of a national situation room for real-time crisis monitoring, reinforcement of emergency communications systems, and the professionalization of humanitarian response operations.

Recent disasters in the regions of Rufiji, Kibiti, and Morogoro, along with a building collapse in Dar es Salaam’s Kariakoo neighborhood, prompted swift aid deployments. The government has already delivered food, seeds, and essential supplies to affected communities.

A central situation room is now operational to track emergencies as they unfold and coordinate rapid interventions. Authorities have also upgraded communication networks and operational hubs to ensure faster, more effective disaster response.

During the address, Majaliwa acknowledged the vital role of humanitarian workers, commending their courage and commitment. He called for increased collaboration among government bodies, aid agencies, and other stakeholders to maximize the impact of emergency interventions.
